Yamaha UX16 review

If a music enthusiast wishes to connect his musical keyboard to his computer, using the Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface presents a good solution. The UX16 is compatible with modern day laptops because virtually every computer available in the market today has a USB port. The length of the MIDI cables is slightly above four feet which is a good length for contecting the interface to keyboards or other midi equipment.

technical details

Operates on power received from the computer through the USB port

One I/O port can support 16 MIDI channels

Has power and activity LEDs for indication

Nearly two feet long USB cable

More than four feet long MIDI cable

Works with both MAC OS (8.5 through 9.1) and Windows systems

Hard disk on computer must have 2MB or more free space to support the Yamaha

The Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface does not require any external power source.

The power and activity lights are handy for verifying connections.

There are two views offered in the graphical display. Depending on personal choice, the user can choose Notation view or Piano Roll view. This graphical display is very useful when errors occur while playing a song. Since the user can see the errors, this makes fixing them easier.

Most music applications available in the market are compatible with the Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface, so the user can make a choice according to his or her preference.

Works only with the MIDI cables supplied with the product and not the generic ones.

Some users have complained that sometimes they had to swap the MIDI in and MIDI out ports for the adapter to function. However, most customers have stated that this is a customer error rather than a product defect.

How easy is the midi interface to connect to the computer?

Using the Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface is easy and convenient. Firstly, the UX16 is connected to the USB port of the computer. Then, the MIDI in and out cables are plugged into the keyboard. For the first time of use, the driver is then installed on the computer using the CD-ROM provided with the package. The Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface is then ready to use.

Overall, the Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface is ideal for both budding and professional composers and is worth every penny spent.
